Anything work any more?

I would love, love, love to install a piece of software and have it work like it’s supposed to.  I was trying to take measurements of some monitor speakers and encountered quite a few problems.

First the measurement software crashes on the laptop everytime I try to select the input device. Then on my recording computer, Samplitude reboots the computer ever time I try to have it import a cd track.

I’m getting too old and impatient for this. I just want software that works and doesn’t kill my cpu.

There is really stable software but it doesn’t have the features needed. Should I just accept the trade off?

Like a drug.

I don’t know what it is….it’s like a high. When working on a great piece of music, there is some kind of connection- beyond the physical. It lifts you up and takes you to a higher place, you become a part of something bigger than yourself and your current situation and it leaves you wanting more.

When mixing it is our job not to get into the way of this. It’s not even our job to enhance it, it’s our job to release it.

I’m thankful that my work can take me to another place. It’s addicting.

My DAW ADD

Tools are very important to our craft. Really good tools not only make work easier but inspire creativity and are transparent in that they don’t interrupt a good workflow.

I’ve used Pro Tools for years and use Pro Tools HD and my work. I also do a lot of mixing at home, and wanted the power of PT HD without having to spend all the money for it. I have LE, but it just lacks a lot of the mixing power of HD. No VCA groups, very limited automation, no delay compensation are just a few of LE’s limits.

I’ve gone through a lot of programs at home that just haven’t made me happy like HD. SAWstudio, Reaper, Record, Audition and Samplitude just to name a few.

I finally decided to stick with Samplitude because it meets the requirements in the first paragraph. Samplitude provides a very comprehensive toolset and sounds very good. In fact, before i buy a plugin I have to check if it already doesn’t come with Samplitude.

There seems to be a lot of “Daw Wars” these days. People are always looking for the best. The best tools are the ones that fit you…. how you like to work and the ones that give you what you need to complete the task.http://www.samplitude.com
